Let’s Talk Faith

Transformation Takes Time

Challenge Accepted

Growing up I loved listening to hip hop. Loved it! As an 80’s baby, we had the best era of hip hop headlined by Kanye West, Eminem, Jay-Z, 50 Cent, and Lil Wayne (Sorry West Coast!). As fun as this music was to listen to, it was, and is, terribly bad for the soul. Secular hip hop is to the soul as McDonald’s is to heart health. It’s poison. It effected the way I thought, the way I spoke, acted, and ultimately killed my ability to hear God. I loved hip hop, Satan loves it more.

In my 30’s, something changed. Through Music, Jesus said, “follow me”.

I cannot remember how I stumbled across K-Love Radio, but it literally changed my life. K-Love Radio is a well known Christian Radio station I never knew existed. I turned on K-Love Radio, and behold, they presented a 30-day challenge to their listeners. All you could listen to was K-Love Radio and it’s Christian worship music for 30 straight days. I stuck to it, and something miraculous started to happen. It was transformational. The pride I spoke about in my previous post, the past I was holding onto, started to calm. I started to let go of things I was clinging onto, and started to hear the Gospel. Christ spoke to me through music, and my soul began to transform. I walked and talked differently. I swore less, and smiled more. My mind no longer wondered aimlessly with sin, instead it was calmed. Oh, and those fake arguments in my head with people I resented, See Ya! No more.

Instead of injecting poison, aka hip hop, into my soul, I began to worship. And I’ve never looked back!

K-Love’s 30-day challenge was part of my testimony at baptism. There was a direct correlation to worship music and finally understanding, believing in Jesus’s saving grace. Worship music recalibrated my soul.

Transformation takes time. Are you willing to take the challenge?
